Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team couldn’t overcome a slow start Saturday, falling, 9-6, to Rampart.
Steamboat (0-4) fell behind 6-2 at halftime and never could quite close the gap.
Jesse Wallace and Nastassija Voyich picked up goals for the Sailors while Aleigh Aurin made six first-half saves.
Steamboat, however, was without several players and suited up only 13 girls. This left the Sailors with one sub. Still the team made a run in the second half.
Aurin — who was in goal because of her experience there in hockey — traded out in the second half and scored three goals in the second half.
Sam Trahan played in goal in the second half and made seven saves.
“I was very happy with the goalies and the way they stepped up,” Steamboat coach Betsy Frick said. “We’re getting better on defensive positioning; we just need to work on our attack.”
Steamboat plays at 4 p.m. Friday at Grand Junction and 11 a.m. Saturday at Battle Mountain.
