— The Steamboat Springs High School baseball team split a doubleheader in Craig against Delta on Saturday.

Steamboat won the first game, 5-2, before falling, 6-1, in the second game.

“We should have won both, but that’s how I’ll always think,” coach Jeff Walton said.

Walton, in his first game taking over the program, got a well-pitched game from Tommy Lyon in the first game.

Lyon went the distance, giving up just one earned run while striking out five and walking four. He also gave up only six hits.

Eric Spahr and Michael Yost each went 2 for 3 at the plate in the first game with each scoring a run.

In the second game, Walton said the team just struggled with leaving guys on base.

Steamboat (4-5) next plays a doubleheader on Saturday at Battle Mountain.

The first game begins at 11 a.m.
