Steamboat Springs Patience proved key on Thursday as the Steamboat Springs High School girls soccer team improved their record to 2-0.
The Sailors were persistent on offense, biding their time against a determined Colorado Academy defense. Eventually the shots came, and so did the goals, Steamboat racking up a 4-0 win in the first round of an eight-team tournament at Colorado Academy.
“We’re still in that position where we need to be a little more proactive as a unit, to be a little more on the same page, but this was a good game,” Steamboat coach Rob Bohlmann said.
Ali Pougiales scored twice for Steamboat, punching in the team’s second and fourth goals.
Sydney Bauknecht got the Sailors on the board. Pougiales added a second goal on a through ball from Megan Rosa right before half.
Tatum Sear opened the scoring for Steamboat in the second half and Pougiales struck again to set the final score.
The Sailors play again Friday against Middle Park in the tournament’s semifinals.
