The Hayden Planning Commission will meet Thursday night to discuss possible changes to Hayden’s historic downtown district.
About 30 Hayden residents attended four public meetings last month to weigh in on the proposed changes to the district.
Their suggestions ranged from keeping the zoning the same to shrinking it to a single block of South Walnut Street. The district currently stretches for five blocks on Jefferson Avenue and is two to three blocks wide.
The size of the district has received attention this year because some local officials think it is preventing business development.
Earlier this year, Hayden’s Economic Development Commission asked the Hayden Town Council and the Planning Commission to shrink the district and rezone much of it commercial and industrial. Economic Development Commission officials said the zoning changes ultimately could make it easier for businesses to move into and renovate existing structures.
