There were plenty of reasons to doubt the Hayden High School football team as it headed into the 2011 season. The squad had graduated a senior class absolutely brimming with playmakers and needed players who’d mostly seen only small roles to turn into stars overnight. That’s exactly what happened as a new crop of Tigers rose up to again help take the team to the state playoffs. Again, it was coach Shawn Baumgartner holding the reins and leading the squad down that path. Few coaches seem to squeeze the best out of their players the way Baumgartner does. He’ll have another tough test this fall. He has the stars back, but they must adapt to 8-man football.
