Steamboat police warn residents to lock cars

— Steamboat Springs Police Department officers are continuing to warn residents to lock their car doors after cash, iPods and loose change reportedly was stolen Saturday from 15 to 20 unlocked vehicles.

Police Sgt. Scott Middleton said Sunday that the items were taken from vehicles parked at condominium complexes on Mustang Run, Village Drive, Sequoia Court, Chinook Lane and Covey Circle. Middleton added that all of the vehicles were left unlocked, and he encouraged residents to lock their car doors.

Saturday’s thefts come after police received 13 reports of loose change and cash being stolen from cars that had been left unlocked in the area of Chinook Lane and Sparta Plaza.
