The Hayden Public Library proudly announces the first Reader of the Week in the annual Summer Reading Drawing. Every summer, the library holds a weekly contest, and the chosen winner is interviewed for the Steamboat Pilot & Today and wins a T-shirt, water bottle and book.

Alexei Reyes, 10, of Craig, was chosen as the winner. Alexei often visits the Hayden library with her grandparents and participates in the Summer Reading Program, too. She will be in fourth grade next year. She has a twin sister, Cristiann, and an older sister, Hali. Her dad is Cardenio.

Alexei has lived in Craig all her life and attends Sunset Elementary School. She likes to play with her sisters and her nextdoor neighbor Tate. But most of all, she enjoys her horse, Gallop, and says that when she grows up, she will become a veterinarian.

Her favorite color is green, her favorite food is noodles, and her favorite movie is “Old Yeller.” She enjoys playing soccer and tennis, and in school, her favorite subject is math. One of her favorite books is “The Underneath” by Kathi Appelt. Her family enjoys camping during the summer. When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading, she said, “Make a reading chart, and then read about 15 or 30 minutes every day.” Alexei said she was “surprised but happy” when she found out she was the Reader of the Week.
