Routt County Search and Rescue busy after slow spring

— After a relatively slow spring, Routt County Search and Rescue has responded to three calls in the past week, including two calls Friday for rescues at Fish Creek Falls.

Search and Rescue board member Chad Bowdre said the first call Friday was for a 14-year-old boy who got separated from his family and got scared while hiking along a steep scree field. The boy was able to get down mostly on his own.

At about 4:45 p.m. Friday, Search and Rescue volunteers responded to Fish Creek Falls again for a female who thought she had broken her leg about one-half mile from the first bridge.

On Sunday, volunteers helped a 59-year-old woman who possibly broke her ankle while hiking on Rabbit Ears Pass. Bowdre said the woman was carried to a four-wheeler and then was taken to get medical attention.
