— The Steamboat Springs American Legion baseball team lost its first two games in the double elimination Legion State Tournament, falling, 10-4, to Fort Morgan and 10-5 to Summit.

The team finished the year with a 14-11 record.

“It was disappointing to lose two at state after working so hard to get there,” manager Dave Roy said. “We had a great season, and the record didn’t really show how good this team was.”

Against Fort Morgan, Steamboat fell behind, 5-0, in the third inning. The team cut the score to 5-3 in the bottom half thanks to a two-run home run by Ryan Jeep and an RBI double by Michael Yost.

But Fort Morgan sealed the game with five runs in the top of the fifth. Matt Regan added an RBI single in the sixth for Steamboat.

In the second game against Summit, Steamboat fell behind, 8-0, in the first inning. Steamboat scored a run in the fourth and fifth and two in the seventh, but the first-inning damage was too much to overcome.

Cutter Pasternak and Regan each had three hits. Regan knocked in four runs.
