Fire restrictions to be eased Friday on Routt National Forest land

— Fire restrictions are being downgraded to Stage 1 beginning Friday on Routt National Forest land because of recent precipitation that has increased fuel moisture to acceptable levels, according to a news release. The change will allow campfires within agency provided fire grates, grills and rings at developed campgrounds and picnic areas as well as petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices that are capable of being shut off with a switch control.

The following remain prohibited:

■ Fires outside developed, maintained campgrounds or picnic areas

■ Explosives

■ Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material

■ Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame

■ Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark-arresting device properly installed, maintained and in working order
