Steamboat briefs: 1 fire sparked in Routt County by weekend’s thunderstorms
Monday, July 16, 2012
Steamboat Springs Along with some much-needed moisture, the thunderstorms that swept through Northwest Colorado during the weekend also sparked several lightning-induced wildfires. Only one of the fires was in Routt County.
The largest fire was the 74-acre Scandinavian Fire about four miles south of the Colorado/Wyoming border on Bureau of Land Managment land, according to a news release from the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit. The 7/11 Fire was 22 acres about 10 miles northwest of Craig.
Fire officials warn that dry weather is back in the forecast for the remainder of the week, and the rain that fell Saturday through Monday will do little to seriously impact fire conditions. Stage 2 fire restrictions remain in effect for all public and private lands in Routt County. The restrictions include a ban on all open flames, including campfires and charcoal grills.
