Hayden Public Library proudly announces the fifth Reader of the Week in the annual Summer Reading Program.

Alondra Cerda, 9, of Hayden, was chosen as this week’s reader. She will be in fifth grade next year. Alondra stops by the library every day to read and participate in the weekly programs. She has two younger brothers: Dustin, 6, and Dylan, 1. Her parents are Maria and Sergio. Her brother Dustin also was named Reader of the Week this summer.

Alondra moved to Hayden five months ago from Mexico. She likes to play with her friends Valeria, Hannah and Zarela. She says when she grows up, she hopes to become a chef and own her own restaurant. During summer reading, she made her own cookbook.

Her favorite color is pink, and her favorite food is tortas with carne, which is a flatbread with a filling. She likes the movie “Twilight.” She enjoys playing cooking and reading. Her favorite subject is computers, and her favorite sport is baseball. She enjoys all the “Fancy Nancy” books written by Jane O’Connor. She especially likes the chapter books in this series. During the summer, her family will travel to a beach in Mexico.

When asked if she had advice about reading for other children, she said, “If they paid more attention to books, they can imagine things.” Alondra said she was “excited and surprised” when she found out she was chosen as Reader of the Week.

As the Reader of the Week, Alondra gets to choose the food for the following week at Bingo and Cooking. Alondra chose to make pancakes.
