— Routt County Riders is looking for volunteers for its fifth trail workday of the summer.

The organization’s trails committee will work Saturday on trails at Steamboat Ski Area.

Volunteers are asked to sign up by Thursday.

Lunch is provided by Haymaker Patio Grill, and beverages have been donated by New Belgium Brewing Company.

Those interested can sign up by emailing trails@routtcountyriders.org or by calling Marko Ross-Bryant at 970-846-8131. People also can sign up online by clicking here.

Tools for the day will be provided, but volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves, a backpack, sunscreen, a hat and water.

Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at Knoll Parking Lot. The workday is expected to last until about noon.

Snacks on the trail are provided by Honey Stinger. The work will focus on Pete’s Wicked Trail with general maintenance as well as work to help water drain from the trail.

“The trail has been neglected throughout the years with water running down the trail,” Ross-Bryant said. “That’s the root of the problem. Once we get water bars in, we’ll work on making a smoother riding surface.”

Of the many trails Routt County Riders has worked on, this will be the second straight time the group will work on trails at the ski area.

The group also was vital in working on the Rotary Trail on the backside of Emerald Mountain.

The next trail day will be July 21. Find more information on the Routt County Riders website or on Facebook.
