A memorial service for John Sid Wheelock was held Saturday at the American Legion.

Cara Cozzins, Lori Laird and Laurie Hallenbeck served lunch to about 30 people who attended the Fair Queen Royalty contest. A day of riding and workshops were held for the contestants at the fairgrounds on Friday.

If you have a child between the ages of 1 and 18, they are eligible for free breakfast and lunch during the summer at Hayden Valley Elementary School. Breakfast is from 8:30 to 9 a.m., and lunch is served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mission of Grace Baptist Church and Hayden Congregational Church sponsor a Vacation Bible School starting July 16 and running through July 20. The school will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Call Hollie at 970-846-0338.

A hunter safety course will be offered from July 16 to 20, with July 21 being the day to shoot at the range. The class is from 6 to 9 p.m. Preregistration is required; call Colorado Division Parks and Wildlife at 970-871-2855 for more information and to register.

A memorial service for Dale Whaley is July 21 at Yampa Cemetery.

Get-well wishes to Larry Kier, who is recuperating from 10 broken ribs suffered in a horse accident.

Martha Snowden, of Aida, Okla., is visiting friends in South Routt. She also will attend her 60th class reunion and the 50th anniversary of the Baptist Church.

Charolette and Lynn Whaley have returned from their extended vacation. They toured areas in the eastern part of the U.S.

Stagecoach State Park will host a free Bluegrass on the Beach concert featuring Old River Road at 6 p.m. Thursday. Entrance is free, but attendees must have a valid park pass. Bring your family, friends, chairs, beach toys, blankets and dancing shoes. Bring a picnic or just enjoy the free popcorn from the new popcorn machine. Beach volleyball also will be available. Leave your dogs and glass products at home.

The Telsa Quartet, from Strings Music Festival, will entertain folks during a senior luncheon at noon July 16. There is the cost for lunch, and the cooks need a head count for anybody who plans to attend. Call 970-879-0633 before Thursday to let them know if you will attend.

Susi Crowner was host to the Grand Slammers last week in Yampa. Prize winners were birthday girl Cathie Voorhees, Jeanie Lombardi, Jane Weston, Wanda Redmond, Raylene Olinger, and Mary Jane Logan. The date of this month’s meeting hasn’t been determined.
