Brittany Volleberg, 12, of Hayden, was chosen as the Hayden Public Library’s fourth Reader of the Week. Brittany often visits the library and participates in the Summer Reading Program as well as a mentor in the Bradley’s Book Buddies program. She will be in seventh grade next year. She has a younger sister, Andrea, who is 2. Her parents are Flor and Ronnie.
Brittany moved to Hayden a year and a half ago from Montrose. She likes to hang out with her friends Gabrielle and Cerra. She says when she grows up, she will become a radiologist or a cardiologist. She used to have a Pyrenees dog named Snowball.
Her favorite color is green; her favorite food is steak; and her favorite movie is “Jack and Jill” with Adam Sandler. She enjoys reading, hanging out with friends and playing outside. In school, her favorite subject is hands-on science, and her favorite sport is basketball. One of her favorite books is “Night World” by L. J. Smith. Her family is going on a road trip to the West coast for a summer vacation.
When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading, she said, “Read more to have a better vocabulary, be smarter, and reading helps you get further in life.” Brittany said she was “excited” when she found out she was chosen the Reader of the Week.
Brittany chose to make “cold s’mores — graham cracker crumbs, chocolate pudding and mini-marshmallows” for her food of the week.
