Steamboat Springs Three of the top teams from last weekend’s Mountain Valley Bank Ranch Rodeo will compete in an unique challenge during Wednesday's Fourth of July Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo.
In addition to regular events, the rodeo, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Brent Romick Rodeo Arena in downtown Steamboat, will pit three teams against one another in four events typical of daily ranch duties. The teams will compete in steer penning, steer tie down, calf branding and wild cow milking.
Each team has five minutes to complete the tasks. Each team will start with their horses in a pen and with the cattle loose in the arena. The cowboys then have to rope, tie, mug, milk and pen the designated livestock in the quickest time possible.
The teams competing will include Lee Meyring, Spike Meyring, Gary Rodarhmel and Joe Wood — winners of Sunday’s ranch rodeo. Third-place finishers and Meeker cowboys Lenny Klinglesmith, Coley Turner, Neil Brennan and Ryan Vroman will compete as the second team. Brent Romick, Pete Fox, Tony Mendes and Keith Isley will make up the third team.
“I thought it would make a great added event for our Pro Rodeo’s special performance on the Fourth to put together a challenge to several of the top teams from the ranch rodeo — winner take all,” Romick said. “You are going to be watching some of the top ranchers and true cowboys from Northwest Colorado competing against some PRCA cowboys.”
