Steamboat's Matt Ladley places 5th in X Games
Sunday, January 29, 2012
Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs snowboarder Matt Ladley took a big step forward in his second trip to the finals in the Winter X Games snowboard superpipe event in Aspen. He fell late in his last run through the pipe, however, and came up short of the podium.
Ladley finished fifth in the event, a step better than his eighth-place finish a year ago.
Snowboarding superstar Shaun White won the event for the fifth-consecutive year, underlining his dominance with a perfect 100.0 point run on his final trip down.
Ladley’s best run was his first, where he played it relatively safe and recorded a score of 78.66. That pushed him to third place. He was bumped to fourth by the second run results and fifth in the final run. He repeatedly tried to best his first score but couldn’t make it.
Iouri Podladtchikov finished second with 93 points, Ryo Aono third with 86 and Christian Haller was fourth with 83.
