Naked man shot with Taser, hospitalized

Steamboat Springs — Steamboat Springs Police Department officers used a Taser on a 24-year-old Steamboat Springs man after he charged at them while naked Friday evening.
Officers were called to Spruce and Larimer streets at about 7:30 p.m. Friday when a neighbor reported a naked man unintelligibly yelling in the middle of the street.
Police Sgt. Gerard Geis said the man, Jerry Ray Phillips, was acting aggressively toward the officers and refused to stop coming at them, so they shot him with a Taser gun.
Officers think Phillips was under the influence of cocaine. He was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center for overnight observation. He was issued a summons for indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and obstructing a peace officer.

Why'd they have to Taser him? Surely they didn't think he had a concealed weapon. If it was zero degrees I'm sure the weapon he was threatening them with couldn't have looked too dangerous....

From the recent cases of people being seriously injured or dying from falls related to fights, it should be clear that unarmed combat is not safe. And it takes very little time to run 10 or 20 feet to attack an officer so threatening moves is an appropriate time for an officer to incapacitate the person.
Be glad they have TASERs and no serious harm was done.
