Steamboat snowboarder Schaffrick struggles at X Games in Aspen
Friday, January 27, 2012
Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs snowboarder Maddy Schaffrick struggled on Friday at the Winter X Games in Aspen, failing to land a clean run in the women’s superpipe.
Schaffrick, who was the youngest women’s competitor at 17, crashed in all three of her runs and finished in eighth place.
On her first run, Schaffrick couldn’t fully rotate her Haakon flip and caught the edge of her board on the lip of the half-pipe.
Her second run saw her land too low in the pipe.
In her third and final run, she wasn’t able to get enough pop off the lip and landed outside of the pipe on another Haakon flip.
Kelly Clark won her second straight gold medal. Elena Hight was second, and Hannah Teter was third.
Schaffrick’s next big event is Feb. 10 and 11 at the Winter Dew Tour stop in Ogden, Utah.
She also has a Sprint U.S. Grand Prix event March 1 to 4 in Mammoth Lakes, Calif.
