Old Town Hot Springs Trident swimmers excel in Thornton

— Three members of the Old Town Hot Springs Trident swim team competed during the weekend in Thornton at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.

Brenden Carta dropped 27 seconds in his 500-yard freestyle time and won the Trident award for dropping the most time in one event.

Samantah Terranova qualified for state in the 500 free and had the most top-10 finishes at the meet.

Frank Ruppel qualified for state in the 200-yard butterfly and won the Trident award for winning the most heats.

The team next competes Feb. 18 and 19 at the Western Slope Championships at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.
