Steamboat Nordic team skiers qualify for state

— The Steamboat Springs High School Nordic team had several more skiers qualify for the state meet Saturday at a competition at Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center near Estes Park.

In the women’s 3.5-kilometer skate race, Steamboat finished fourth. Martha Anderson was ninth, Sarah White was 23rd, Bailey Pugh was 27th, Hannah Barkey was 30th, and Lesley Myller was 36th. With the finishes, Pugh qualified for the state meet. The other girls previously had qualified.

In the women’s 3-kilometer classic race, Steamboat finished sixth as a team. Anderson was sixth, White was 25th, Barkey was 29th, and Myller was 35th. The top 37 skiers in the classic race qualified for state.

In the men’s 3.5-kilometer skate race, Steamboat boys finished 10th. Peter White was the Sailors top skier in 25th. Alec Schaffer also qualified for state with a 34th place finish. In the men’s 3-kilometer classic race, the team again finished 10th. Peter White was the top finisher in 25th.

In the continuous-pursuit event, a combination of the skate and classic times, Anderson was the top Steamboat women’s finisher in seventh. Sarah White was 23rd, and Barkey was 30th. On the men’s side, Peter White was tops, finishing 21st.

The team next competes Saturday in Eldora.
