Steamboat Springs There is some solace to take in realizing Delta has done this to just about every team in the Western Slope League.
Delta showed why it’s perceived as the class of the league by running Steamboat out of the gym Saturday and picking up an easy 55-26 win.
The Panthers, now 14-2 and 6-0 in league, scored at will in transition.
“The thing in the first half that bothered me was the transition defense,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said. “They wanted to score in transition. That’s how they get most of their points, and that’s how they pulled away.”
Steamboat trailed 17-9 after one quarter and seemed to get past Delta’s initial rush. But the Sailors didn’t score in the second quarter, and the Panthers put the game away.
Nikki Fry paced the Sailors with 9 points, and McKenzie Repollo had 8 off the bench.
Steamboat (9-6 overall, 3-2 league) next plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Moffat County.
“Tuesday is big,” Ameen said. “We have to go over there and play hard and tough.”
