Steamboat Springs The Hayden High School wrestling team stormed to a second-place finish Saturday in a tournament at Rangely, the Tigers sweeping up championships in five weight classes.
Kent Miller at 113 pounds, T-Lane Mazzola at 126, Nick Williams at 138, Chad Terry at 145 and Ryan Domson at 182 all mastered their divisions against a field of western Colorado and Utah teams.
Journey Vreeman placed third for the Tigers at 132 pounds while Taylor Lewis was fourth at 152.
“It was a great tournament for the kids to get some confidence,” Hayden coach Chad Jones said.
Seniors Williams and Terry won their brackets in style. Williams pinned his way to the championship while Terry earned a pin in the finals, defeating a two-time Utah state champ.
“With the injuries those two have gone through, it’s great that they’re coming back now” Jones said. “They provide a lot of leadership, and it’s great to have them back. We hope we can keep them healthy so they can enjoy their senior seasons.
