Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team picked up a 37-31 win Saturday at Eagle Valley.
Steamboat started slow, trailing 4-2 after one quarter before bursting out to an 18-11 halftime lead.
The Sailors led by 34-23 to start the fourth quarter before the Devils mounted a comeback.
Steamboat hit 14 of 29 free throws in the game, but the Sailors struggled down the stretch.
“This is good momentum going into next weekend against two good teams,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said. “We’re always confident. We’ve got to work out a few things and make a few adjustments. We need to work offensively, and hopefully that gives us some opportunities on that end — maybe more than we had” Saturday.
Sydney Bauknecht led the Sailors with 12 points.
Steamboat plays at 6 p.m Friday at home against Palisade before welcoming Delta on Saturday.
