Hayden — Call it therapeutic.
The Hayden High School girls basketball team entered the weekend on a three-game losing streak, and it will exit it having dominated opponents in back-to-back games.
On Saturday, the Tigers demolished North Park, winning, 61-22.
Coupled with Friday’s 70-20 win against West Grand, it made for a weekend short on drama but long on smiles.
“It was an opportunity to reenforce some of the things we’ve been working on,” coach Michelle Wilkie said.
After establishing an early lead — which happened in the first minutes of the first quarter — the Tigers shifted to a goal-oriented mindset. They had hoped to cut their turnovers in half and make great strides in free-throw shooting.
Wilkie said the team managed to realize the numbers it had in mind, limiting itself to nine turnovers in each game. On Saturday, the squad made 85 percent of its free throws.
Another big goal: spreading out the scoring. Hayden, 7-3, achieved that in a big way. Only senior Erin Koehler was in double digits. She had 22 points. All seven other Tigers who suited up for the game scored. Kelsey Rolando had nine, Brette Frentress added seven and Olivia Zehner scored six.
