Steamboat wrestling grabs 2 wins Monday night

— Monday wrestling is rare, Steamboat Springs High School coach Shane Yeager said. So rare that he said he’d never even heard of it.

The potential complications — being ready and making weight only 48 hours after wrapping up a tough tournament in Vernal, Utah — didn’t add up when the Sailors got a Monday opportunity. The squad won a pair of duals Monday in Battle Mountain, knocking the host, 42-30, and Lake County, 48-6.

“Coming back and having to make weight on Monday, that’s a big deal, and they took on the challenge and did really well,” Yeager said. “They wrestled pretty darn good.”

Casey Williams, Nathan Parks, Dylan Wallace, Cole Sittig, Dane Koepfer and Guerin Lewis all went 2-0 on the evening. Dylan Parsons, Logan Epperson and Connor O’Brien were each 1-1.

The team returns to action Saturday at Evergreen.
