Steamboat Springs Soroco High School wrestling coach Jay Whaley said his team was better Saturday as it returned from the winter break with a competition at Eagle Valley.
Still, he said there’s no shortage of things for the squad to work on as the season carries forward. Senior Lauryn Bruggink led the Rams with a fourth-place finish in the 106-pound classification, but Whaley said she and the rest of her teammates have work to do.
“We’ve improved since the tournament right before break, but we still have a long way to go,” Whaley said. “As a team, we just need to finish a move. We hit them good, but we don’t finish them.”
Aside from Bruggink’s drive to fourth, Whaley said a highlight came from Tristan Palyo, who continues to battle back from a dislocated elbow that sidelined him early this winter.
“He wrestled at West Grand (in December), but this was the first time he was starting to look like the old Tristan,” Whaley said.
