Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs High School wrestler Casey Williams finished in fifth place at 152 pounds at the Vernal, Utah, Tournament of Champions on Saturday.
The tournament usually draws top competition from Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.
“That’s as tough of a competition as we’ll see all year,” Steamboat coach Shane Yeager said. “It’s somewhere between our regional and state tournament. It’s very, very tough.”
Williams lost to the top seed, 6-4, in his opening match before wrestling his way back and finished the tournament with a 6-2 record.
Steamboat also had wrestlers Dane Koepfer, Nathan Parks and Connor O’Brien make it to the second day of action.
Steamboat continues wrestling Monday at Battle Mountain. The team also travels Saturday to Evergreen.
