Steamboat Springs Different night, same story.
Just a day after playing its worst game of the season against Glenwood Springs, the Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team produced another stinker Saturday, falling, 42-21, at Mead.
Steamboat (6-5 overall, 0-1 in league play) shot just 22 percent from the field and made just three of 11 free throws.
Mead, meanwhile, shot 53 percent from the field and got to the free throw line 23 times.
The Sailors fell behind, 8-5, in the first quarter and never recovered.
“It’s one thing to lose. But it’s the way we’ve lost,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said. “It’s not indicative of the type of team we are. We have got to turn it around. It can go one of two ways. It can keep going this way, or we can get better.”
Nikki Fry led the Sailors with seven points and three rebounds.
The team next plays at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Battle Mountain.
