Steamboat Springs Hayden certainly has improved, but Friday’s 51-42 loss to Meeker proves the Tigers aren’t all the way there. The Tigers (2-4) had a letdown in the third quarter in letting the Cowboys take advantage.
“It was definitely a positive turnaround,” said Hayden coach Mike Luppes, whose team lost 66-35 to Meeker earlier this season. “Overall, I was pleased with our play, but turnovers got us. We had way too many empty possessions.”
The game was tied at 23-all at the half before the Cowboys took control in the third. Meeker led, 43-33, going into the fourth quarter, and Hayden never could make up the deficit.
Jorge Valdez led Hayden with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Mark Doolin had 12 points, and Aaron Cramer had seven.
Hayden next plays at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vail Mountain.
