Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School boys and girls ski teams each finished second at the Colorado High School State Ski Championships in Beaver Creek.
The final tallies both Alpine and Nordic results from the two-day event.
The Steamboat teams each finished behind Aspen in the overall title hunt.
“We’re super excited for them,” Steamboat Alpine coach Anje Worrell said. “To walk away with that on the men’s and women’s sides and all the league awards is super exciting.”
Leading the way Friday was Connor Bernard. The senior Alpine skier kept his impressive slalom streak together, finishing first. Keegan Millard was third, and Tommy Lyon was fifth.
Sarah White led the girls team with a fifth-place finish. Suzanne Lyon was sixth, and Megan Rosa was eighth.
In the Nordic portion of Friday’s race Martha Anderson paced Steamboat with a 10th-place finish.
Sarah White was 22nd, Hannah Barkey was 32nd and Lesley Myller was 33rd. Jake Barker was the top boys finisher in 11th. Peter White was 15th, and Dane Dixson was 29th.
“For the season, I couldn’t have asked for a better effort (Friday) and (Thursday),” Nordic coach Emily Lovett said. “Apparently they were ready to ski.”
Steamboat also came home with a slew of league and state awards.
On the boys side, Alec Schaffer was second in the Skimeister, a combination of Alpine and Nordic finishes. Peter White was third, and Jake Barker was fifth. On the girls side, Sarah White was second in the Skimeister and Martha Anderson was third.
Martha Anderson earned All-state honors in classic. Tommy Lyon was all state in boys giant slalom, while Rosa and Sarah White each were named all-state in girls giant slalom.
Tommy Lyon and Bernard were named all-state in slalom, while Suzanne Lyon and Sarah White were named it on the women’s side.
