Steamboat Springs ■ 6 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (12-9, 6-5) vs. Moffat County (16-6, 9-2)
Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball coach John Ameen firmly thinks his team already has locked up one of the 48 spots in the Class 4A basketball tournament.
“I would be dumbfounded if we’re not,” Ameen said. “We should be in.”
Of course, the coach won’t know for sure until the brackets are released Sunday. One way he almost could ensure a spot and raise eyebrows would be a victory against Moffat County on Friday.
The two rivals battle at 6 p.m. in Steamboat.
With a win, Moffat would tie for a Western Slope League title.
“It would be a great way to go out in the season and a great way to go into the playoffs,” Ameen said. “It’s something where we believe we can play with them.”
Steamboat, however, will be without starting forward Jesse Wallace, who is attending all-state band.
The Colorado High School Activities Association will release the full 48-team bracket Sunday.
