Steamboat Springs ■ 7:30 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (7-14, 4-7) vs. Moffat County (6-14, 3-8)
At least history is on the Steamboat Springs boys basketball team’s side.
Traditionally, four teams from the Western Slope League have made the Class 4A state playoffs.
Should Steamboat beat rival Moffat County at 7:30 p.m. Friday, the Sailors would have the leg up on that fourth slot.
“This ends up now being a really big game,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. “I’ve never seen them take less than that.”
Steamboat still could tie Glenwood Springs for fourth in the league standings, but that can wait.
For now, Steamboat knows it has to beat Moffat to remain in the conversation.
“Our defense has carried us through a lot of games,” DeWolfe said. “I’m sure (today) it will play a big role. If we can control the pace and tempo with our defense and score when we have the opportunity, we should be OK.”
The Class 4A, 48-team bracket will be released Sunday.
