Steamboat Springs The Hayden School Board will begin discussions about the district’s 2012-13 calendar during its Wednesday night.
“We have lots of ideas on the table,” Hayden Superintendent Mike Luppes said Tuesday. “Everything is wide open at this stage. There has been nothing sacred in our discussions” about next year’s school calendar.
He said the district’s calendar committee has met and discussed potential changes that range from extending the school year to having students in Hayden start classes before Labor Day. He added that the board will provide valuable input that will help give the committee more direction in the coming weeks.
“We’d like to have our calendar adopted before the end of April,” he said.
The School Board voted narrowly in May to adopt a calendar for this school year that was similar to the calendars the district adopted in previous years. With their vote, the board rejected a proposed calendar that would have added eight instructional days to the school year and had students start before Labor Day.
Wednesday’s meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Hayden Middle School.
