Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team played well for three quarters Saturday in Delta before falling, 61-44, to the Western Slope League-leading Panthers.
The Sailors battled foul trouble for much of the game but still led, 26-21, at half. Delta used defensive pressure to take a 40-36 lead into the fourth before opening things up in the final frame.
“It was closer than the score indicates,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. “We definitely didn’t execute for the whole game. We did it for a half. In the fourth, we were showing we were a little tired.”
Jake Miller led the Sailors with 13 points while Kit Croop added 11.
Steamboat next plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday at home against rival Moffat County.
