Delta rolls past Steamboat girls basketball, 54-32

— The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team lost to Delta, 54-32, on Saturday.

The Sailors trailed just 14-13 after one quarter, 24-15 at half and 35-21 after three quarters before the Panthers put the game away.

“The whole game, we were within 10 or 12 points,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said. “I was happy with, again, the way we came out. We were with them for three quarters. We played with them. Breakdowns started to hurt us in that fourth.”

Steamboat again was led by senior Eryn Rinck’s 14 points. Nikki Fry kicked in 10.

The team next plays at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Moffat County.

“Getting a win is a goal,” Ameen said. “Hopefully after (Saturday), our girls realize they can run with the elite teams.”
