— Thursday’s surprise snowstorm gave way to more of the white stuff Friday. And while accumulating snow is less likely Saturday, powder returns to the forecast Sunday night.

A winter weather advisory expires at 9 a.m. Saturday for the highest elevations of Routt County, including Mount Werner and Steamboat Ski Area, where total accumulations were expected to be in the 5- to 10-inch range.

Clearing skies Saturday will give way to some sun and a high of 40 degrees. Saturday’s low will dip to 20 degrees. Sunday should be cooler, with a high of 36 degrees and an increased chance of snow.

The snow has been welcome news to skiers and riders at Steamboat Ski Area. As of early Friday afternoon, the ski area had picked up about a foot of snow since Wednesday night.

Winter Carnival activities begin in earnest Friday. Click here for a full schedule of Winter Carnival events, and pick up a copy of Friday's Steamboat Today for a special Winter Carnival insert. The e-edition version is available here.
