Steamboat Springs Competing in their first international competition, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club cross-country skiers Emily Hannah and Mary O’Connell both registered top-40 finishes Wednesday at the Scandinavian Cup in Madona, Latvia.
Hannah finished 29th, and O’Connell was 36th.
“It’s their initial foray into international competition,” Winter Sports Club coach Brian Tate said. “I’m sure their eyes are pretty wide.”
Hannah finished 25th in the qualifier and made it into the quarterfinals heat, where she finished sixth.
“It’s still very respectable to qualify for the rounds with that level of competition,” Tate said.
The two Steamboat skiers will continue Thursday with a 15-kilometer mass start race.
