Steamboat briefs: Account opened to aid man with expenses after crash


Oak Creek native John Lipsie, 20, was in fair condition Monday in a Texas hospital after a car crash Thursday night in Livingston, Texas, that killed the driver and also injured a 16-year-old girl.

An account in John Lipsie’s name has been opened at Wells Fargo to assist his family with medical expenses and the cost of traveling to the hospital.

Winter Carnival Soda Pop Slalom at ski area Friday

The 99th Winter Carnival Soda Pop Slalom is at 10 a.m. Friday on Stampede ski run at Steamboat Ski Area. The race is open to skiers and snowboarders ages 11 and younger. Register from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club office at Howelsen Hill. All participants must have a Winter Carnival button, which can be purchased for $7 at registration. For more information, call the Winter Sports Club at 970-879-0695, ext. 100.

Volunteers needed for the Hospice daffodil fundraiser

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is in need of volunteers for the Hospice daffodil fundraiser. Volunteer duties include about one hour in early February and one hour in early March. Contact Director of Development Dervla Lacy at 970-871-7603 or by Wednesday.
