Soroco boys basketball struggles in West Grand

— The Soroco boys basketball team started and finished well.

It was those two pesky quarters in between that decided Saturday’s game at West Grand.

Soroco struggled in the second and third quarters, falling 61-48.

“The second and third quarter got us,” coach Sam McLeod said. “We got in foul trouble in the second, and it hurt our inside game quite a bit.”

Soroco was up 14-13 after one quarter, but then the Rams started to struggle. Forward Ryan Jeep got in foul trouble, and the Rams never could get it going. Soroco trailed 28-20 at halftime, and West Grand hit four early 3-pointers in the third quarter to begin to pull away.

Rams guard Nic Paxton, who scored 26 points Friday, picked up a technical early in the third Saturday and didn’t play the rest of the game.

“It wasn’t really a contest in the second half,” McLeod said.

Jeep, despite the foul trouble, again led the Rams with 15 points

The team next plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Vail Christian.
