Steamboat Springs Former ATP Tour player Trent Tucker recently visited the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs, and the short stop resulted in a relationship between him and the local tennis facility that could last well into the future.
Tucker was visiting Steamboat to ski and relax. Tucker is a former ATP Tour Player and currently is director of the Trent Tucker Tennis Academy, one of 12 Regional Training Center facilities in the U.S. The TTTA, located in Tulsa, Okla., is ranked fourth of the 12 for players qualified for Level 1 national championships.
Tucker visited two of the center’s Junior Tennis Academy classes and then began offering his expertise to the entire coaching staff.
Tennis Center pro Bill Conway and Tucker now are planning a long-term mentoring relationship between the Trent Tucker Tennis Academy and the Junior Tennis Academy at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs.
“We feel honored to have Trent believe in our coaching abilities and in our young students here in Steamboat,” Conway said. “To build this relationship and offer such unique opportunities to our juniors is very exciting.”
Tucker started his academy in 2002, and by 2009, his players had won 46 Missouri Valley Championships and two national championships. In 2010, the academy set a record by sending eight of its high school seniors on to play Division 1 tennis at schools like Cornell, Duke, Miami, Marquette, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and the University of Missouri at Kansas City. In total, Tucker’s Tennis Academy has sent more than 30 players on to play college tennis and has helped secure more than $1 million in scholarships.
