Woman ordered to pay back $45,000 to former Steamboat employer
Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Steamboat Springs A former Steamboat Springs resident has been sentenced to 15 days in jail for stealing from her former employer.
Kayla Dawn Barker was arrested in February 2011. Police think she stole nearly $70,000 using checks from her former employer, Aspen Grove PlumbĀing and Heating.
Earlier this year, Barker pleaded guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor harassment. As part of a plea deal, a forgery and separate theft charge were dismissed.
The felony theft charge that Barker pleaded guilty to carries a deferred judgement and sentence. If Barker follows the terms of her four-year supervised probation, the charge will be dismissed.
In addition to jail time, Barker was ordered to pay back $45,000 to her former employer.
