Steamboat Springs Phillip doesn’t look like your average house cat.
His owner, Steamboat resident Carole Krohn, said her 4-year-old F1 male Savannah cat might look more like a bobcat to anyone who sees him roaming in the Fish Creek Falls area of Steamboat Springs.
And she hopes someone does.
Phillip has been missing for one week after escaping from her Blue Sage Circle home. Krohn thinks he may have headed toward the open space near her house.
He’s charcoal in color with black spots and is 25 to 30 pounds — about the size of a large fox. Krohn is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who returns him home healthy.
“They do very well in the wild,” she said. “He’s very cautious. He’s highly reactive to sound.”
He has a microchip and was wearing a red collar when he went missing.
Savannah cats are a hybrid of African serval cats and a domestic breed and were registered by the International Cat Association in 2001, according to the Savannah Cat Club.
Krohn said Phillip probably would shy away from someone who approached him, but anyone with information is asked to call Krohn at 970-846-1397.
