1st jumping event in Steamboat yields big results

It may not look much like winter outside, but the season officially is on for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, which played host to a ski jumping and a Nordic combined competition Saturday.

The club registered a number of strong finishes at the Rocky Mountain Division Winter Start event.

Competing on the HS100 hill, Aleck Gantick led the way among the J1 men in a special jumping competition. He finished with 217.5 points. edging out teammate Ben Berend, second with 214.5, and fellow Steamboater Tyler Smith, third at 203.5.

Emilee Anderson was first among the J1 women with 176 points. Elizabeth Wallace was second with 96, and Elyse Hoffman was third with 93.

Wallace won a J2 special jumping competition off the HS75 hill, finish with 162.4 points. Steamboat’s Natalie Bohlmann was second at 155.7, and Sabina Gasienica was third at 140.8.

Casey Larson won there among the men, finishing with 234.2 points. Ben Loomis was second at 228 and Steamboat’s Finn O’Connell was third at 224.9.
