Steamboat Springs One of Gretchen Sehler’s favorite sayings is “how much is your favorite trail worth?” Judging from Sehler’s countless hours on Emerald Mountain, her answer is "priceless."
It’s also why Sehler has helped with numerous trail workdays with Routt County Riders. But even those have a price. Sehler, in coordination with Routt County Riders, will host a fundraiser bike race Sept. 8.
The "Ride For Dirt — Keep Emerald Mountain a Gem" event will help benefit Routt County Riders and the trail workdays. The proceeds will go toward trail tools and the lunches that are provided for volunteers.
“What we’re trying to do is be out there and help keep our trails in good shape,” said Sehler, the Ride For Dirt director.
The event will have 25- and 12.5-mile rides. The pro/expert field will do two laps for a total of 25 miles. The 12.5 mile lap is for citizens divisions and fun rides. The event begins at 9 a.m.
The cost is $30 for Routt County Riders members and $35 for nonmembers. Registration includes lunch and a shirt. To sign up, click here.
People with questions or those interested in volunteering should call Sehler at 970-819-1564.
“It takes money to get these trails out there,” she said.
