Steamboat Springs Construction of fishing piers and a shoreline trail will require water to be drained from Hahn's Peak Lake. The lake level will drop 10 feet and the day-use area of Hahn's Peak Recreation Lake Area will be closed when construction begins after Labor Day. The trail will connect the day-use area with the campground. The project is slated to be completed in the fall.
The Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife started draining the lake last week. Lower shoreline boating access will be affected. A portion of the campground also will be closed, but the day-use area on the east side of the lake will remain open.
According to a news release, these improvements are the last in a series of renovations.
The Hahn's Peak Lake Recreation Area is 30 miles north of Steamboat Springs in the Routt National Forest. The day-use area on the east side that will remain open is accessed by U.S. Forest Service Road 486 off Routt County Road 129. The daily use fee for the area is $5 and campsites run $10 per night. The campground is reached by U.S. Forest Service Road 488.
