Final Town Challenge bike race canceled because of rain

Steamboat Springs — The children got their chance, but for the second consecutive year, the majority of Town Challenge Mountain Bike Race Series participants were left with a bit of an empty feeling at the end of the season.
Wednesday’s Town Challenge season finale mountain bike race was called off as rain poured throughout the late afternoon. Riders gathered for the event, crowding together at the base of Howelsen Hill and warming up in the nearby parking lots. The children’s races were even run, but the rain intensified, and the event was called off. It was a similar story last year as the summer’s final event was called off on a rainy Wednesday.
The race will not be rescheduled.
