— The second annual Biking the Boat Charity Ride returns to Steamboat on Aug. 25.

Presented by Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports and Routt County Riders, the event features four rides for riders of all abilities and benefits recreation programs for people with disabilities.

There are 26-, 46- and 55-mile rides as well as a five-mile all abilities ride.

The 55-mile loop begins at 7:30 a.m.; the 46-mile begins at 8:30 a.m.; the 26-mile loop starts at 10:30 a.m.; and the five-mile loop begins at 11 a.m. Registration fees are $60 for the 55-mile ride, $50 for the 46-mile ride, $25 for the 26-mile ride and $15 for the five-mile ride. Youths younger than 10 are free.

The rides begin in Gondola Square. There also will be a post-ride party in Gondola Square featuring live music, Qdoba, New Belgium beer and the sixth leg of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge projected on a big screen.

“This ride is not just for people with disabilities. It is for everyone that loves to bike and wants to help others be able to experience the thrill of participating in biking in our community," STARS Executive Director Julie Taulman said in a news release. “We hope that this ride proves to people that everyone has the ability to bike.”

Last year, more than 90 riders participated in the event, and all the money stayed in Routt County.

People can sign up as an individual, family or team.

Those who raise $500 will receive a 2012 Bike the Boat custom jersey.

Riders can find detailed route descriptions or register by clicking here. For a Hot Steamboat Deal registration — available until 11:59 p.m. Thursday — click here.

The 26-mile ride is an out-and-back along River Road and Routt County Road 33. The 46-mile road follows the same road but goes to the Peabody Coal Mine and back. The 55-mile ride is the classic 20-mile loop.
