Steamboat briefs: Part of Yampa Street will be closed starting Thursday

Yampa Street will be closed from Fifth to Seventh streets from 6 a.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Sunday for the Art Stroll at the All Arts Festival, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. Call Sarah Leonard at 970-875-7006 for more information.

Phippsburg Rummage Shop to be closed Thursday

The Phippsburg Rummage Shop will be closed Thursday because of the Routt County Fair. The shop will be open normal hours next week.

More volunteers needed for events this summer

■ Volunteers are needed to help guests with information and hand out brochures at the Steamboat All Arts Festival. Shifts are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday as well as 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday only. Those who are interested should call Maren McCutchan at 970-475-4529.

■ Mainstreet Steamboat Springs is in need of chili judges and volunteers to help with the Chuck Wagon Chili Challenge on Sept. 2. Shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will be able to taste all the chili, salsa and cornbread they want to in exchange for their time. Those who are interested in volunteering should call Tracy Barnett at 970-846-1800.

■ Volunteers are needed for the STARS and Routt County Riders Biking the Boat charity ride Aug. 25 in Steamboat Springs. Help is needed with aid stations and course setup and cleanup. Those who are interested should email janetrcr@hotmail.com.

Local author festival is Saturday at Library Hall

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council, Steamboat Springs Writers’ Group, Off the Beaten Path Bookstore and Bud Werner Memorial Library present Written Art, a festival of local authors, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Library Hall. The free festival includes book signings and sales as well as author panels. Join the authors for one of the 20-minute interactive talks moderated by Off The Beaten Path owner Ron Krall.

■ 10:30 a.m. “Recording History: Research, Writing, Photography” with Sylvia Duncan, Harriet Freiberger, Ken Proper, Sureva Towler and Daniel Tyler.

■ 11:30 a.m. “Novel Ideas: A chat with four fiction writers” with Veronica Blake, John Grassby, Kathleen Cunningham Guler, J.L. Hardesty and Cesare Rosati.

■ 12:30 p.m. “Nonfiction: Writing Life’s Adventure from the Land and the Sea” with Mary Kurtz, Bonnie McGee and Dagny McKinley.

■ 1:30 p.m. “Poetic License,” a conversation and reading with Ann A. Stranahan.
