Do you have children who enjoy any of the recreational activities or organized sports the valley has to offer in summer, winter, spring and fall? If so, consider attending the free community health program, “More than just a bump on the head: Youth sports and concussion,” at Yampa Valley Medical Center at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Throughout the past few years, there have been great strides in understanding the healing process after a concussion. The local presenters and the guest speaker have been dedicating a portion of their professional lives to ensure young people who encounter a concussion along life’s way can properly heal and return to their studies and activities in good form.

Most of us always will be in awe of the complexity of the functioning of the brain, but the information that will be presented on recovering from a concussion is for the whole community — from family and students to extended family and friends, to educators, sports instructors and health care workers.

Everyone has a part in a good recovery.
